Oklahoma School Testing Program for English Language Arts
Purpose
This testing assessment system utilizes different types of assessment to gather multiple pieces of evidence to provide timely, relevant, actionable, and reliable information about what students know and can do relative to a set of standards.
Test Structure, Format, and Scoring
The English Language Arts operational test is meant to be administered in two sessions within one day with a break between sessions or on two instructional days in a row. Each section of the test consists of 25 operational items and 5 field-test items.

Users of Google Gemini,the tech giant's artificial-intelligence model, recently noticed that asking it to create images of Vikings, or German soldiers from 1943 produced surprising results: hardly any of the people depicted were white. Other image-generation tools have been criticized because they tend to show white men when asked for images of entrepreneurs or doctors. Google wanted Gemini to avoid this trap; instead, it fell into another one, depicting George Washington as black. Now attention has moved on to the chatbot's text responses, which turned out to be just as surprising.
Gemini happily provided arguments in favor of positive action in higher education, but refused to provide arguments against. It declined to write a job ad for a fossil-fuel lobby group(游說(shuō)團(tuán)體), because fossil fuels are bad and lobby groups prioritize "the interests of corporations over public well-being". Asked if Hamas is a terrorist organization, it replied that the conflict in Gaza is "complex"; asked if Elon Musk's tweeting of memes had done more harm than Hitler, it said it was "difficult to say". You do not have to be a critic to perceive its progressive bias.
Inadequate testing may be partly to blame. Google lags behind OpenAl, maker of the better-known ChatGPT. As it races to catch up, Google may have cut corners. Other chatbots have also had controversial launches.
Releasing chatbots and letting users uncover odd behaviors,which can be swiftly addressed, lets firms move faster,provided they are prepared to weather(經(jīng)受住) the potential risks and bad publicity, observes Ethan Mollick, a professor at Wharton Business School.
But Gemini has clearly been deliberately adjusted, or "fine-tuned", to produce these responses. This raises questions about Google's culture. Is the firm so financially secure, with vast profits from internet advertising, that it feels free to try its hand at social engineering? "Tie an Italian's hands behind his back," runs an old joke, "and he'll be speechless." This rests on a national stereotype: Italians are talkative and emotional, and all that arm-waggling supposedly goes to prove it.
Susan Goldin-Meadow of the University of Chicago has a rather different view. Emotions come out in lots of ways: facial expressions, posture, tone of voice and so on. But people are doing something different when they use gestures with speech, which she sums up in the title of her new book, "Thinking with Your Hands". It is a masterly tour through a lifetime's research.
Virtually everyone gestures, not just Italians. Experimental subjects, told after a research session that they were being watched for gestures, apologize for not having made any-but were doing so the entire time. People born blind gesture when they speak, including to each other. A woman born without arms but with"phantom limb syndrome(幻肢綜合征)"describes how she uses her phantom arms when she talks-but not when she walks. All this suggests that cognition is, to some extent, "embodied"; thinking is not all done in your head.
In fact, gestures that accompany speech are a second channel of information. Subjects watch a film in which a cat runs but are told to lie and say it jumped. 學(xué)好高中英語(yǔ)的方法
(一)學(xué)習(xí)之前的準(zhǔn)備必不可少
1、對(duì)照。根據(jù)教材譯文,將英漢兩種語(yǔ)言逐篇逐句逐詞進(jìn)行認(rèn)真對(duì)照,從中領(lǐng)會(huì)每個(gè)單詞的意思,對(duì)已經(jīng)劃線和能夠明白含義的生詞先撇下不管,對(duì)不明白意思的生詞就靠對(duì)照方法,查出英文生詞的漢語(yǔ)意思,實(shí)在查不出的,就依據(jù)譯文意思進(jìn)行猜測(cè),并用漢字標(biāo)注在英文生詞下面,然后再將答案全記在思考、練習(xí)、測(cè)試題的后面。這樣比起用字典一個(gè)一個(gè)查生詞、一點(diǎn)一點(diǎn)苦苦思考不會(huì)的難題要簡(jiǎn)單省事得多,自然就節(jié)省了許多時(shí)間和力氣。
2、劃線。每篇課文后的生詞分單詞、詞組、地名人名三部分,可以將它們從課文中全部找出,并分別在單詞下劃上單橫線、詞組下劃上彎曲線、地名人名下劃上雙橫線,以表示這些生詞在課文后就有,以免日后在讀課文時(shí),再胡亂猜測(cè)、到處查找。
3、瀏覽。將書(shū)從頭到尾看一遍,懂不懂、難不難、會(huì)不會(huì)先別管它,只是為了增強(qiáng)感性認(rèn)識(shí)而已。
(二)學(xué)習(xí)必須要理解
4、細(xì)讀。將每個(gè)章節(jié)細(xì)細(xì)品讀,力求對(duì)每個(gè)詞句都做到真正理解。
5、粗讀。將新書(shū)內(nèi)容簡(jiǎn)單地粗讀一遍,對(duì)不認(rèn)識(shí)的生詞反復(fù)閱讀兒遍,記住它到底由哪幾個(gè)字母組成,以便增加印象,日后再屢次碰到它時(shí),自然就會(huì)認(rèn)識(shí)了。先將難題甩下,不被難題困擾,以免從一開(kāi)始就產(chǎn)生畏難情緒。
6、摘記。要學(xué)會(huì)自我加工、壓縮和簡(jiǎn)化內(nèi)容,將重點(diǎn)內(nèi)容以只要肉眼能夠看得見(jiàn)的小字體,集中摘記在書(shū)的前后,便于一眼明了,和教材一樣長(zhǎng)期保存。
7、精讀。認(rèn)真閱讀書(shū)中每個(gè)字句,甚至序跋,將難題認(rèn)真思考,逐一解決,力求真正掌握,不留半點(diǎn)疑問(wèn)。
(三)練習(xí)聽(tīng)讀也很重要
8、光聽(tīng)。把書(shū)扔到一邊,集中全部精力,屏心靜氣地聽(tīng)磁帶中的人物宣讀。
9、看聽(tīng)。一邊看教材,一邊聽(tīng)磁帶,認(rèn)真聽(tīng)磁帶中的自讀者是怎樣發(fā)音的,心里跟著默默閱讀。
10、單讀。不聽(tīng)磁帶,只拿著書(shū)自己閱讀。
11、朗頌。拿著教材,自己逐篇大聲朗讀課文,仔細(xì)較正自己的口型和發(fā)音,尋找正確的感覺(jué)。
12、聽(tīng)讀。拿著書(shū),一邊聽(tīng)磁帶,一邊跟著大聲閱讀。
(四)好好復(fù)習(xí)準(zhǔn)備考試
13、背誦。考試前注重抓語(yǔ)法知識(shí)和單詞兩個(gè)重點(diǎn),快要考試前十天左右,拼命背誦單詞、語(yǔ)法和摘記。
14、回顧。在考試前一天,將全書(shū)內(nèi)容像過(guò)電影似的在腦中認(rèn)真過(guò)濾一遍,最終達(dá)到全面理解,融會(huì)貫通。
15、做題。考試前四、五天左右,把教材和同步輔導(dǎo)/訓(xùn)練中的思考、練習(xí)和測(cè)試題挨個(gè)做一遍,以提高自己的應(yīng)試能力。
學(xué)好英語(yǔ)的四大技巧
語(yǔ)言的學(xué)習(xí)與開(kāi)車一樣,都是屬于技能的訓(xùn)練,而不是知識(shí)的學(xué)習(xí)。學(xué)好任何一門(mén)技能都有它內(nèi)在的方法,即“道”,烹飪有之,所謂“色香味聚全”,駕駛亦然,所謂“人車如一”,而英語(yǔ)學(xué)習(xí)也一樣。
根據(jù)自己多年的英語(yǔ)學(xué)習(xí)的體驗(yàn),個(gè)人以為要想真正學(xué)好英語(yǔ),一般要注重以下四個(gè)要素,在此與大家一起探討一下:
第一是興趣。
對(duì)英語(yǔ)具有濃厚的興趣,英語(yǔ)學(xué)習(xí)差不多就“成功了一半”。有了興趣,就好比是“潤(rùn)滑劑”,使發(fā)動(dòng)機(jī)能夠正常地運(yùn)轉(zhuǎn),而人有了興趣,就無(wú)須外界的督促,就能夠如饑似渴地學(xué)個(gè)不停,這比天天受到外界的壓力,甚至“背水一戰(zhàn)”,要具備更多的積極意義。
那么如何培養(yǎng)學(xué)習(xí)英語(yǔ)的興趣呢?我認(rèn)為這是個(gè)仁者見(jiàn)仁,智者見(jiàn)智的問(wèn)題,我也會(huì)在后面的文章中詳細(xì)探討的。
盡管前面談到的興趣是學(xué)習(xí)英語(yǔ)十分重要的因素,但并非是必要的。很多英語(yǔ)學(xué)的好的人并非具有濃厚的興趣,究其原因之一,多是個(gè)人努力和外界的壓力所致,如考試壓力,升學(xué)壓力,工作壓力,晉升壓力。這就屬于第二點(diǎn)??動(dòng)力??的一種。
第二點(diǎn)是動(dòng)力。
動(dòng)力好比汽車的發(fā)動(dòng)機(jī),推動(dòng)汽車的前進(jìn)。對(duì)英語(yǔ)學(xué)習(xí)不感興趣,但是具備上面所提到的外在壓力,同樣能夠“臨陣磨槍,不快也光”。除了外在壓力,內(nèi)在努力也是動(dòng)力的一種表現(xiàn),也是學(xué)習(xí)任何一門(mén)技能所“必備”的??沒(méi)有自身的努力,就很難學(xué)到任何技能。努力學(xué)習(xí)就是指每天多花時(shí)間學(xué)習(xí)新知識(shí);努力學(xué)習(xí)就是遇到困難以后堅(jiān)持不懈;努力學(xué)習(xí)就是在別人花一分努力我花十分努力,就是在別人花十分努力我花一百分努力的表現(xiàn)。
第三點(diǎn)是正確的方法。
有了以上兩點(diǎn)要素以外,還需要第三點(diǎn),正確的方法。沒(méi)有一個(gè)正確的方法,英語(yǔ)學(xué)習(xí)會(huì)很被動(dòng),時(shí)間花了不少,但效果卻不理想。看看多少人徘徊在英語(yǔ)學(xué)習(xí)的門(mén)外,一直無(wú)法入門(mén),而只能“瘋狂”地pounding on stones (敲打著圍墻),學(xué)習(xí)只能是“少慢差費(fèi)”。而有了正確的方法,就好比汽車有了方向盤(pán),就可以少走彎路,學(xué)習(xí)起來(lái)也就是“多快好省”,事半功倍了。正確的方法,可以是自己從不斷的“摸爬滾打”當(dāng)中總結(jié)而來(lái),也可以是得到名師的指點(diǎn),往往名師的指點(diǎn)很重要,因?yàn)槲覀円婚_(kāi)始學(xué)習(xí),很難掌握一條有效的學(xué)習(xí)方法,更不用說(shuō)是正確的方法了,這時(shí)候就要多請(qǐng)教過(guò)來(lái)人,多聽(tīng)聽(tīng)前輩的指點(diǎn),一定會(huì)大有益處。
第四點(diǎn)是訓(xùn)練。
光有前三點(diǎn):興趣,動(dòng)力,和方法,還不夠,還需要反復(fù)訓(xùn)練,也是學(xué)好英語(yǔ)的最重要的一個(gè)要素。訓(xùn)練,也就是通常所謂的“多聽(tīng),多說(shuō),多讀,多寫(xiě)”。缺乏訓(xùn)練,就如同學(xué)習(xí)游泳一樣,光有游泳的沖動(dòng),游泳的教練,以及一大堆游泳的理論,不進(jìn)行實(shí)踐,也只能是紙上談兵。
綜合以上的四點(diǎn),其重要性由弱到強(qiáng)??對(duì)英語(yǔ)不感興趣,但有外在壓力同樣可以學(xué)好。光靠死讀書(shū),沒(méi)有正確的學(xué)習(xí)方法,也不能學(xué)好英語(yǔ)。如果光有學(xué)習(xí)方法,而不進(jìn)行訓(xùn)練,一樣一無(wú)所獲。最重要的一點(diǎn)是勤于訓(xùn)練,唯有不斷訓(xùn)練,才能提高語(yǔ)言技能,不斷進(jìn)步。
